In 2015, through a shared agreement, Musikene and the Orfeón Donostiarra created this award with the aim of encouraging musical research in the Basque Country. The award is annual and does not include a monetary prize.

Terms of the award

This initiative represents yet another step towards implementing the idea initiated by maestro Sainz Alfaro in 2001, with the creation of the Violin Class, and directed at forming the Orfeón's own string orchestra in the near future.

Directed at pupils from primary schools, 2nd and 3rd cycle (8 to 11 years) in San Sebastian who want to enrich their offer of extracurricular activities to students with singing lessons.

The classroom is open to both young enthusiasts and older musicians alike.

The group of youngest members acquires personality and independence. Most of its singers come from the School Choirs and the Music Workshop, which allows them to start working on more difficult pieces from the beginning. It is comprised of children aged 8 to 11.
