Esteban Urzelai arranges from 2007 the position of assistant director of the Orfeón Donostiarra with the direction of the Orfeoi Txiki and of the youthful choir created by this organization.

Urzelai has sung in different Guipuzcoan choral groupings since he was seven years’ old, choirs like Sustraien Ahotsa, KEA Ahots Taldea, KUP Taldea, Conductus Ensemble and the own Orfeón. He has participated in the European Youth Choir under the direction of Johannes Prinz, Fred Sjöberg, Frieder Bernius and Robert Ray and in the choir of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart (2003).

He has realised academical studies of choral direction in Musikene, the Music Conservatory of the Basque Country, as well as studies of piano and has a degree in Engineering (Industrial Organization).

Among his experience like chorus master, it can be emphasized his work in Oñatiko Ganbara Abesbatza. With this group he obtained the First Prize and Prize of the Public in the XXXIV Choral Contest of Ejea de los Caballeros, Spain (2003), I PREMI FIRACOR, in Cocentaina (Alicante) (2004), the Great National Prize of Choral Song in Rojales (Alicante) (2004), the fourth Prize and the Prize of the Public in VIII the International Choral Competition Maribor (Slovenia) (2006) and the 5th position in polifony in the 38th International Contest of Tolosa (2006).
